Barbara - Under the moon, as the sun slips away, I swim in the Mediterranean Sea

We were too exhausted to wrote yesterday after a 9 hr flight, three hours of airport waiting, a quick flight to Crete and then a crazy drive to our Airbnb, but we made it! The roads are skinny and windy. The drivers wild. No one signals. Everybody speeds. And pass regardless of road markings! I am clearly part Cretan...

Delicious aubergine baked meal last night and my first retsina. A walk through small town of Spili helped us feel the thrill of being in Crete, but today cemented our vacation excitement... Byzantine history (14th century monastery, Katholiko..root for the "one holy Catholic /united church), sea swim, wild goats, cave dwelling, olive trees heavy with fruit, an unexoected sung evensong in the monastery, beach walk watching the sun set (Stavros Beach, where Zorba the Greek was filmed), pork souvlaki on the harbour front of Chania old town / market area, and a wild drive home to our mountain top in dark and fog. Gillian rocked the drive home.

Also, a gift of the hugest pomegranates from our neighbor off his tree, which are out of this world delicious! Fabulous days.

Technical problems getting my photos up right now so will post later.
